GAMENOTES: Charlotte Hornets (19-59) vs. Dallas Mavericks (48-30) - April 9th, 2024
Lots of tributes in the final home game for the Hornets and for Steve Clifford as head coach
FINAL
Charlotte Hornets 104 (19-60) - Dallas Mavericks 130 (49-30)
THE BOXSCORE
WHY DID THEY WIN/LOSE?
In a touching tribute to Steve Clifford, the Hornets did all of the things in the 1st half that made him quit. Mind numbing turnovers. Not running back on defense. Allowing easy straight line drives that were met with late help. Ceding nearly every long rebound to Dallas. The Mavericks finished the 1st half with 10 offensive rebounds for 20 2nd chance points.
Superstars super starred: Luka Doncic had 21 points in the 1st quarter and finished with a 39 point triple double. Kyrie Irving was a pest on defense and got anywhere he wanted to on the court. He had 18 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks.
Daniel Gafford Hornet Killer: 26 points on a perfect 12 of 12 from the field to go with 7 rebounds a steal and 2 blocks.
NEWS AND NOTES
The Hornets honored Steve Clifford in his final (we think?) home game as Hornets head coach.
The Hornets also honored PJ Washington in his first game in Spectrum since being traded to Dallas
Speaking of tributes, PJ Washington returning to Spectrum and going 0-7, 0-6 from 3 for 1 point after being generally on fire for the past few weeks was incredible.
