THE BOXSCORE

WHY DID THEY LOSE? (AND OTHER IMPORTANT STORIES)

  • The Hornets just felt a step behind the Spurs all game, and it’s not hard to see why.

  • Victor Wembanyama is somehow underrated in the public psyche. The way he prevents anyone from even thinking about going into the paint just mucks up the entire offense, especially when you have centers that can’t space the floor. He had 32 points to go along with his 12 rebounds and 8 assists.

  • The Hornets started ice-cold from the field. LaMelo was the only guy who could get anything going in the 1st quarter. He ended the game with 17 points and as a -22. He had some good defensive effort, but got into foul trouble early, only playing 22 minutes.

  • Brandon Miller had a stinker today. He has continued his unfortunate trend of scoring way fewer points in the 2nd half than he does in the 1st half. He had 6 points all in the 2d quarter and then did not score the remainder of the game. He was an X-Factor in the last Spurs game, and missing his production was the nail in the coffin for the loss.
